While surfing the New York Times I came across an advert for Orbitz in the right hand side-bar. Being interested in ads I usually give ads at least a glance but this one looked intriguing. Orbitz provides users with an ad, with a message, and a very relevant message at that. Check out the images to see what the ad-game is all about.
Orbitz is targeting golf players, but the way the advert-game in Flash has been done, it even appeals to me for example and I don't play Golf ! Orbitz as you can see in the image talks about 'Golf Getaways' and playing on the Golf image is targeting a more affluent public. One issue is that once you are redirected there is no Golf specific page. However the game is simple enough to appeal to a far larger audience. The presentation works nicely to indicate immediately what it is and how to play the game. Once you have tried it, it can actually become quite addictive.
This is where you can see that it was nicely thought out by the producers of the game. Once you have obtained the goal of getting the golf ball into the hole you are presented with a message that asks you whether you want to play again ! Frankly I was thinking once I saw the ball go into the hole "Now I'm going to get redirected to some website whether I like it or not". But not so !
As you can see in the image below a message appears over the game when you win, asking you if you want to continue and play again ! Nice touch. Nice enough to get me to check out what Orbitz wanted me to look at once I've played again a few times...
Although I did get redirected once when clicking on play again !
